USCAA National Track and Field Championships 2000

Dear Team Captain,

On behalf of the United States Corporate Athletic Association (USCAA) and Qwest, I invite you to participate in the 2000 USCAA National Track and Field Championships in Renton, Washington, August 5th and 6th at Renton Memorial Stadium. Qwest is excited to host next year's Championships, and looks forward to returning the event to the Pacific Northwest.

Following is some general information about the host site and logistics to help you get your planning underway for next year's Nationals.  More detailed information will be provided as the date nears and as more is required to cement your team's participation.  Information will be provided both via e-mail and via the USCAA web site at www.uscaa.org — we encourage you to bookmark the site and check it frequently for updates.

Location:

Renton is located 15 miles southeast of Seattle and provides a small town atmosphere in an urban setting. The Cedar River runs through the city, directly behind the stadium.  The stadium is home to local high school teams, as well as to the Seattle Sounders professional soccer team. Lake Washington is just north of the stadium, where you’ll find Renton’s Coulon Park on the shores of the lake.  See our Maps page for various maps that will help orient you to our area.

Facilities:

Renton Memorial Stadium features an eight-lane, 400 meter all-weather track less than two years old. The shot put, discus, high jump and long jump areas are all within the stadium. The stadium offers covered seating for 5500, and free parking for 1,000 vehicles.  Ample restroom facilities are located on both sides of the stadium.

Road races will be run from the stadium onto the Cedar River Trail located behind the stadium.  The course will be TAC or USATF-certified.

Lodging:

We have negotiated special rates for discounted lodging at three area hotels, with rates starting at $79-99. The Holiday Inn Select in Renton is the headquarters hotel and is two miles away from the stadium, while the Holiday Inn and Suites in Kent and the Hawthorne Suites in Kent are within seven miles of the stadium. The three hotels will provide limited shuttle service between hotels, area restaurants, and the stadium.

Contact Sydney Swainson (425-226-7700) for the Holiday Inn Select, Amy Wiley (253-395-4300) for the Holiday Inn Kent, and Jeff Bowe (253-395-3800) for the Hawthorn Suites.  Please note: we strongly urge you to book your lodging early, due to the many events being held in the area.

There are many other hotels and motels in the Renton/Tukwila/Kent areas; all within ten miles of the stadium. The nearest dormitory facilities are 15 to 20 miles away; if your team requires dorms or if you would like lodging recommendations, please contact me as soon as possible.

Local Interest:

The greater Seattle area boasts a wide variety of restaurants and activities to serve and entertain you after each day's competition wraps up. The Spirit of Washington Dinner Train departs from downtown Renton, golf and horse racing are nearby; and great shopping at the Southcenter Mall is four miles away from the stadium. You can venture to Seattle and visit the Space Needle, or browse at the Pike Place Market. And Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners, is one of the most spectacular baseball venues in the United States.

We look forward to making the 2000 Nationals a memorable event for you and your teammates. We will be in touch with further information, and are pleased to answer any questions you may have in the interim.  Feel free to contact me by e-mail with any questions at dhiraba@uswest.com.  Once again, don't forget to book your lodging, bookmark our web site, and, of course — enjoy your training!
